Points
Positive points
- Held in side control or mount, reverses top-to-bottom
- Ends OUTSIDE the guard — "ends passed the guard"
- More than 75% of opponent's back on the floor
- Position established for 3 seconds
"Clean" requires BOTH conditions: ends outside the guard AND 75%+ back on the floor. Scored identically to a clean sweep.
- Athletes facing each other, bottom initiates change to top
- Ends OUTSIDE the guard — "ends passed the guard"
- More than 75% of opponent's back on the floor
- Position established for 3 seconds
- One continuous motion, no submission threat
"Clean" requires BOTH conditions: ends outside the guard AND 75%+ back on the floor.
- Attacker lands OUTSIDE the guard — "ends passed the guard"
- More than 75% of opponent's back on the mat
- Not in the threat of a submission
- Position solidified for 3 seconds
"Clean" requires BOTH conditions: ends passed the guard AND 75%+ back on the floor. Missing either condition makes it a regular 2-point takedown.
- Both hooks in, OR body triangle established
- Hooks must not cross over either shoulder line
Points-milking is explicitly legal: release a hook (or the body triangle) for 3+ seconds and re-establish for 3+ seconds to score again.
- At least 75% of the opponent's back on the mat
- Control established for 3 seconds
- When passing straight to mount or knee-on-stomach, only the pass scores
Each position must be established for 3 seconds or more and being out of any danger of submission in order for points to be awarded.
- Inside or outside knee may score
- Knee must be in the middle of the stomach — not chest or sides
- Opponent must not be on their side
- Position of the other leg is irrelevant
Points-milking is explicitly legal: release the knee for 3+ seconds and re-establish for 3+ seconds to score again.
- Both knees touching the floor (size-disparity exception may apply — see notes)
- Both knees below the shoulder line
- Opponent's back on the floor
- Reverse mount also scores
- Opponent's hand(s) trapped under attacker's legs still scores
Mount is 2 points, NOT 4 — the PRD was internally inconsistent in an earlier pass. In Absolute fights, if the attacker cannot physically touch their knees to the mat because of size difference, the referees may still award points at their discretion.
- Held in side control or mount, reverses top-to-bottom
- Ends in guard or half guard
- Position established for 3 seconds
Reversals are scored as sweeps. If the reversal ends passed the guard, score as clean-reversal (4 pts) instead.
- Athletes facing each other, bottom initiates change to top
- Top position established for 3 seconds
- Completed in one continuous motion
- No submission threat against the sweeper
"Who initiates" is the primary criterion: points go to the sweeper only if they initiated the motion. If the top player attacks a submission and falls off, that is NOT a sweep for the bottom player.
- Opponent's butt or back on the mat for 3 seconds
- No active submission threat against the attacker
If the takedown lands the attacker in a submission, no points are awarded until the attacker escapes the threat and solidifies the position for 3 seconds.
Negative points
- Bad language or behaviour from the fighter or their coach
- Not obeying referee commands during the fight
- Breaks contact, starts backing up, avoids re-engaging
- Constantly fleeing the mat to disengage
- Fleeing the mat more than once to escape a submission
- Fighter voluntarily jumps guard or goes from standing to non-standing
- Remains down for 3 seconds or more
If the fighter genuinely attempted a takedown for 3+ seconds before pulling, no minus is given. Shooting and then pulling guard or going to turtle inside 3 seconds = minus.
- Two warnings ("WARNING PASSIVITY") before the first minus
- After the first minus, further passivity is penalised immediately without additional warnings
- Passivity during the first (no-points) half still earns warnings and a minus that lands when the second half starts
Two-warning system only applies to the first minus. Subsequent passivity penalties are issued with no further warning.
- Both fighters standing and one places a knee (or both) on the mat for more than 3 seconds
Positions with a control requirement score only after holding the position for the stated duration. Tap any card to see the full criteria and any position-specific caveats.
